Questions and Answers
Comparing Newborn Photographers
When you are comparing newborn photographers, it is important to ask questions! Here are a few key questions that are good to ask, and my answers to them. Feel free to Contact Me for more information!
Where are you located?
My home studio is located very close to M24 and Sawdust Corners, just north of Lapeer.
Are you a registered business?
Yes. I am a legitimate, insured, tax-paying business.
What training have you received?
I have spent countless hours learning how to safely pose newborns. I have traveled as far as Ontario, Canada and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to learn firsthand from experienced newborn photographers. As a mother, it is extremely important to me that I keep my clients safe and comfortable at all times. I will treat your baby as gently and lovingly as I would my own. Any poses that have any risks involved will be done as a composite. This means taking two separate photos and merging them in Photoshop. This is how many of the newborn photos you see on Pinterest are accomplished. Experienced newborn photographers will prioritize safety over ANY photo.
When should I book my Maternity Session?
I recommend scheduling your maternity session in the third trimester, somewhere between 30-34 weeks. I’ve found that expecting moms are usually showing by that time, but are not yet feeling super uncomfortable. You can contact me to book as far in advance as you’d like.
What should I wear for my Maternity Session?
I have a variety of gorgeous maternity gowns in studio for you to wear during your session. All you need to bring is a well fitting nude colored strapless bra and seamless nude underwear. If you already have a gown that you would like to wear for your photos, feel free to bring it along!
When should I book my Newborn Session?
Newborn sessions take place any time before baby is two weeks of age. It is ideal to contact me prior to baby being born to guarantee availability. However, it is NEVER too late to contact me. I leave wiggle room in my schedule for last minute bookings. It is possible to get great newborn style photos past two weeks of age, but the session will likely take much longer and require more patience.
What should I wear for my Newborn Session?
I recommend that mom and dad wear something neutral, such as a well fitting, wrinkle free black or white shirt. Siblings are welcome to wear anything, as long as there are no graphics or words. Some families prefer to be more formal, and others like to be more casual. Stick to your personal style and vision for your portraits!
What is a Fresh 48 session?
A Fresh 48 session is one that takes place in the hospital before you go home with your baby. It is a lifestyle documentary type session that captures your baby when they are brand new. This is becoming increasingly popular among parents, as it documents those first moments that go by so quickly and often become a blur.
When should I book my Fresh 48 session?
It is best to contact me while you are still pregnant. I will put your due date in my calendar and have availability in the weeks surrounding it. Then, contact me as soon as you are admitted to the hospital. This will allow me to arrange my schedule to be available the day after your baby arrives. I prefer to use natural light for Fresh 48 sessions, so it is best to schedule for a time when there will be daylight.
What should I wear for my Fresh 48 session?
Because you will be recovering from childbirth, I suggest being comfortable. I do not want you to feel the need to get all dolled up. While you will be in some photos, the focus will be on baby and little details.
Who can be there for a Fresh 48 session?
I suggest having only immediate family. Mom, dad, and siblings. Having several visitors during your session will slow down my workflow and I will not be able to get as many photos. I also recommend this to help mom and baby feel less overwhelmed!
